VESTAL, N.Y.—The America East Conference has released its annual preseason coaches’ poll and the Binghamton men’s team is favored to retain its conference title. In the women’s poll, the BU women’s tied for sixth place. The America East Championship will be hosted by Boston University on Oct. 30.
The Binghamton men finished with 57 points in the coaches’ poll and received six of the nine first-place votes. Stony Brook followed with 49 points and two first-place votes, just ahead of University of New Hampshire’s 48 points in third place and Boston University, which grabbed fourth with 47 points and the remaining first-place vote.
Senior Erik van Ingen, the defending men’s individual champion, advanced to the NCAA Championship. Graduate student Chris Gaube was the runner up at the America East meet last season. Senior Casey Quaglia and sophomore Jeff Martinez both earned all-conference honors last year. Also returning are graduate student Craig Coon and seniors Adam Quinn and Andrew Ugolino, all of whom finished among the top 21 runners at last season’s conference meet.
On the women’s side, the Bearcats return sophomore Rachel Miura, who placed 10th at the conference meet last season.
Stony Brook, which placed third at the NCAA Northeast Regional Meet last year, was the unanimous pick to win its fourth straight women’s conference crown.
